Name Roger Willatt
Occupation Retired
Current Level Observer, Masters (distinction)
How long have you been driving?
47 years (I got my licence when I was 16, in Africa)
How long have you been an advanced driver? 37 years
Why did you take the test?
I wanted to improve beyond the minimum standard required to pass my driving test. I carried on having driving lessons after I passed my test and later had friends who were traffic policemen. They encouraged me to do the advanced test and to join the IAM. Oh, and for cheaper insurance.
What’s next? I would like to train to become a national observer
What do you currently drive & what do you think of it?
I have a Volvo estate. It’s nice & comfortable and relaxing to drive. It encourages a certain style of driving that aligns with Volvo’s obsession with safety.
What bad habits of other drivers annoy you?
Driving too fast in built up areas, tailgating, lane hogging on motorways.
I try not to get annoyed though, it’s not helpful.
What is your favourite car? I like Porsches.
