Membership by Exemption (Car)

Course overview

As a professional driver, you prove your enhanced skills every day. Your job requires skill, perception, and immense precision in your roadcraft to ensure you are safe and that you can focus on the task at hand.

Our Exemption Car Course allows you to join IAM RoadSmart without going on our Advanced Driving Course.

We welcome professional drivers from a multitude of industries, and we firmly believe that advanced driving skills are a crucial part to improving road safety and reducing the number of collisions that happen daily on the UK’s roads.

IAM Members receive regular charity updates, a regular Members magazine, invites to skills days (hosted on race circuits), exclusive member discounts on various products including advantageous car, motorcycle & home insurance products.

To become a Member by Exemption you need to have one of these professional driving qualifications:

Police Service:

• Standard Response Car Driver
• Advanced Car Driver (F1RST)
• Garda

Ambulance Service:

• All blue light training courses (Level 3 CERAD or equivalent)
• Instructors Certificate (Level 4 DERAD or equivalent)

Fire and Rescue Service:

• Category B officer training

Other:

• DVSA – Cardington Special Test
• DVSA – DVA Driving Examiner Certificate (Northern Ireland)
• MOD – Regimental Staff Car Course and Defence Staff Car Course
• Bentley – Chauffeurs Course
• RoSPA – Gold Award and Silver Award
