‘Queen of bikers’ Maria Costello to appear on IAM RoadSmart stand at Motorcycle Live

Posted on 16/11/18 |

Queen of bikers and IAM RoadSmart riding ambassador Maria Costello MBE will be the special guest on the IAM RoadSmart stand at Motorcycle Live at the Birmingham NEC this Saturday (17 November) and Monday (19 November).

This year will be the third year running the road safety charity will be at the show, which runs from Saturday through to 25 November. We will be on stand 2C36. Maria will be on our stand at 2.30pm on both Saturday and Monday.

The glittering show is the UK’s biggest motorcycle show and features hundreds of exhibitors including manufacturers, suppliers, accessory dealers and stars from the world of motorcycling.

In addition, visitors will have the chance to buy places at the IAM RoadSmart Skills Days for 2019 at the show and there will be some great offers for advanced riding courses.

Maria Costello needs no introduction; she is one of the country’s most successful and accomplished racers, who this year has branched into a four-wheeled racing season for the first time.

She has made more than 40 starts at the daunting Isle of Man TT and returned there this summer. She became the first woman ever to claim a podium at the 2016 Classic TT alongside 23 times TT winner John McGuinness.

For five years Maria held the Guinness World Record as the fastest woman to lap the Isle of Man TT course, when she lapped the Snaefell mountain course at an average speed of 114.73 mph in 2004.

This season Maria continued on two and three wheels but also embarked on driving an Austin A30 car in the Historic Racing Drivers’ Club (HRDC) Championship.

She has also just been appointed president of the TT Riders Association – its first female president in 66 years of running. The association is dedicated to helping TT racers and their families when they encounter hardship.

Pat Doughty, IAM RoadSmart charity and operations director, said: “Maria is one of the most accomplished female motorcyclists of all time, and it is an honour to have her on our stand. We hope that all enthusiasts will come along and say hello to her, and pick up a signed poster and have a selfie with her!

“Also there will be the chance to buy our courses and Skills Days and find out more about them from the team of experts that will be on hand every day.

“UK Road Safety Week this year is running alongside Motorcycle Live and its chosen theme of Bike Smart underlines the key importance of safe motorcycling and the need to improve riding skills.”
