We believe that the best way to know what to expect from becoming an Advanced Driver is to hear from those who have gone through the experience themselves. We asked two recent Advanced Drivers from Kent what they thought of their time on the course, and the group itself.
"The motivation to undertake my IAM RoadSmart Advanced test was to improve and develop my skills as a high mileage motorist which made me more exposed to dangers on the highway.
I passed my Advanced Driver test in 1986 with Kent Advanced Motorists Group. The process was very straightforward and has since been refined into an extremely well-structured course.
I joined the Group and became an Observer the same year subsequently gaining my National Observer qualification progressing to becoming a Local Observer Assessor and have recently completed 37 years activity with the Kent Advanced Motorists Group.
It’s very rewarding to see Associates on a regular basis in preparation for their Advanced test and being a party to their development and success. It’s helped me to maintain and improve my own standards and has opened up active and enjoyable social experiences within the Group."
David - Kent Advanced Driver
"I joined the IAM nearly 40 years ago.I wanted to improve my driving and went through the course and passed. Throughout the course I was well supported my Observer answering any of my questions, advancing my driving skills, until I was ready for my test, which I was pleased to have passed with a F1rst.
I would like to not only maintain and improve my driving skills, but give something back and help others improve their driving skills too. The Kent Group not only provides support in advancing members and associates with their driving skills, but organise social activities as well, all within a welcoming environment.
This has encouraged me to take a more active role within the Group and I have already helped on a couple days promoting the work of the local Group."
