(Check the Sunday meeting dates on our Calendar) .If you have not yet joined or are unsure as to whether this is for you, then please come along to any of our Sunday meetings and sit in on our ‘Introduction to Advanced Driving’ session, without any obligation to join. The introduction will cover what advanced driving is all about and include a FREE demonstration by one of our members to whet your appetite. If you would like to talk to someone prior to visiting the Group then please call (07434) 896 668 or e-mail us. If you prefer to join on line, you can do it with the link below.
Step 2: If you have not yet purchased your 'Advanced Driving Course' pack, then you must first do so in order to become an Associate Member of the Group. You can do this right now with the link below.
Step 3: You will now be provided with the IAM RoadSmart 'Advanced Driving Course' and a list of observers who will give FREE 1-to-1 advice and guidance during your preparation. On a regular basis you will go out with a number of our Observers on pre-arranged dates in your own vehicle on what we call Observed Drives, each one lasting between 45 - 90 minutes. The Observer will provide you with support and guidance through all the different aspects of advanced driving and help you in your progression towards your driving goal. Our Observers will set targets and suggest which aspects of your driving may require further work before your next drive.
Step 4: If you are preparing for the IAM RoadSmart Advanced Driving Test and our observers consider you are ready to take the test, you'll have a mock test and then, all being well, you'll apply for and take the actual Advanced Test.
Step 5: If you are successful in the Advanced Test, then as well as becoming a full member of IAM RoadSmart you can now also become a full member of the Lichfield Group and help us in our work to promote safer driving practices. You can also train as an Observer to help other drivers to become Advanced Drivers.
IAM membership is open to anyone who has passed our advanced driving or riding tests or who qualifies by exemption (holding a recognised qualification).
Membership of an IAM local group starts with your advanced driving or riding course as they will be the people to guide and mentor you through to advanced driver or rider status. The way that we are organised means that you would need to become an IAM member before you could become an IAM local group member, access to our local group network is one of the benefits of being an IAM member.
