FREE YOUNG DRIVERS EVENT
This very successful day was held at Curborough Sprint Circuit on Tuesday August 9th.
Meetings & Drives Current Information
We resumed our monthly Sunday morning (Drive) meetings at the end of July, 2021 and are continuing to meet up as long as that is safe. Dates fall on the last Sunday of every month except December. We will be following our regular pattern of visiting speaker followed by updates and chat. Refreshments will be available.
Middle-of-the-month evening drives are on the evening of the second Wednesday of each month with the exception of January.
Details for all meetings are in the calendar above which will be updated with all new meetings and events as they are confirmed.
Lichfield Advanced Motorists Events for Members & Friends
For our visits, outings & events, we make our own way to the venue where we meet up with the rest of the group. Visiting as a group often means reduced entrance charges
Our first venture outing after lock-down was to the nearby National Memorial Garden to visit the separate Allied Special Forces Grove, run independently by Special Forces ex-servicemen. The stories here expand and change as papers withheld on the grounds of secrecy gradually make their way into the public domain. It was a very moving visit. The group made a donation towards the Grove's upkeep.
At the end of June, a small group who hadn't previously visited Morton Hall Gardens, joined an afternoon tour and afterwards enjoyed a cream tea on the terrace.
In October 2021, a small group greatly enjoyed a trip to Tamworth where we sampled lunch at the Community Hub café in the Castle Grounds, before a tour of the recently refurbished Castle itself.
A small group went to the RAF Cosford museum on a lovely sunny morning visit in March. Such a lot of wartime history shown across the site. When we booked this visit, we had no idea that we would be visiting at the same time that Russia was waging war on Ukraine. Historic displays of the Soviet era and the Cold War of the1950s were alarmingly close to present events.
After almost three years of trying to return to Morton Hall Gardens to view their Spring Meadow displays, 18 of us visited in mid-April.
We are planning a visit to Middleton Hall/RSB Middleton Lakes. There are several possibilities for visits, but the Young Driver Event planning, publicity and delivery has taken up much of our volunteering time in the last few months.
I will email members with details of this and other events members might be interested in joining, but we will err on the side of caution as Covid-19 hasn't gone away.
