This relaxed, no-pressure session gives you a firsthand experience of our Advanced Driving or Advanced Riding courses before you commit. It’s not an assessment of your skills, just a chance to see if our Advanced course is right for you. What to expect:
• A one-hour session with a friendly, experienced volunteer
• Use your own vehicle for a familiar experience
• Flexible scheduling at a time and location that suits you (some Groups hold set taster days)
• A relaxed, enjoyable session with opportunities to ask questions
• No obligation - simply a chance to see if the full course fits your needs
If your local Group doesn’t offer a taster, our customer experience team is happy to help answer your questions about our Advanced Driving or Riding course.
Requirements
• Full licence
• Your vehicle must be taxed, insured, and have a valid MOT (if required).
• No special insurance requirements
What is Advanced Driving?
Advanced Driving teaches you techniques used by the emergency services, including utilising the ‘limit point’ for bends and how to continually apply the ‘IPSGA’ framework to all on-road situations.

Our course brings your riding up to an advanced level, helping you to control the position and speed of your bike with skill. Our course also teaches you how to analyse on-road situations and create a ‘safety bubble’.

Groups are run by teams of dedicated volunteers, so please be aware that they may not be able to respond to your request immediately. Check your email for a confirmation of your free taster request and next steps.
Data
Your data will be held in accordance with our Privacy Policy and passed to the IAM RoadSmart Group you have chosen. Subject to availability they will then arrange a Free Taster session with you. After this, your data will be used once to see if you wish to enrol for an Advanced Driver or Rider course. Your data will then be deleted.
