One of our Aircraft was missing
Once again we were invited to G George day, an event at Brieghton air field.
This was a social ride so could include pillions and invited guests. So with Tim as back marker we set off for a pleasant ride (fully expecting to get rained on), turning left out of the gate. We made steady progress through Ledsham, Fairburn, etc, then general east to Carlton and Snaith before zigzaging our way through Gowdal and Pollington on route to our first stop at the Crown Garden centre for light refreshments etc. So far distant lightning was witnessed but no significant rain for us.
The rain did come down while we were under cover and we were able to delay the restart a little to allow this to pass. The next section took us south to Askern then east through Moss and Sykehouses before turning north eventually crossing the Ouse at Boothferry bridge on our way to our final destination at Brieghton air field.
We were greeted by a busy scene of vintage cars, motorcycles and aircraft. We all parked in a sheltered corner just inside the gate. From here we spread out to explore and find some food, anticipating the planned flypast by the BBMF Lancaster just after 13:00. In the end the Lancaster had some technical issues and all its planned flying for the day was cancelled. We were treated to some spectacular flying displays from the resident and visiting aircraft including a low pass by the visiting Spitfire as he left for home.
Thanks to T5ers Tim, Graham, David with pillions Sarah and Ann as well as potential new YAM associate guest Gareth, for your company on the ride.
