OD Ride to Filey, 5th January 2019, Mark Rodger

It was a Cold ( +4 ) and Grey day as 10 riders departed Squires Cafe a little later than usual (trying to prise them out of the warm cafe) with Mark Rogers leading the ride with what was initially planned as a trip to Whitby via Seaways.

So off we go with a right out of Squires and a decent pace with dry roads and little traffic it was through Sherburn and out toward Cawood and onwards to the A19, a left then right saw us through Escrick and onto the familiar nice and twisty route to Wheldrake and Elvington, with the marking being good the group stayed nicely together as we turned right toward Sutton on Derwent then a left to Newton on Derwent, and across the ( very quiet ) A1079, had us going through Wilberfoss and Fangfoss then into Pocklington.

In Pocklington we turned left onto the familiar Garths End then left at the roundabout onto “The Mile” passing the Farm Shop & Cafe on the left and a very large new build housing estate cropping up on the right ( which will be one to note with a significant increase in traffic no doubt ) and on we go to visit Millington Woods, which were surprisingly dry with very little gravel wash, it made for a safe passage for all,  and we pressed on toward Huggate, a left turn saw us head over toward and join the A166 and into Fridaythorpe and Seaways for the T&P break ( most of who decided to sit outside in the cold with their Tea??, made you drink it quicker I suppose ).

Here it was decided that due to the time a change would be made to the planned route and to head for Filey for the lunch stop then Scarborough for those who were staying on the ride.

With a right out of Seaways we headed down toward Fimber and onto the B1253 to Sledmere and eventually turning left toward Burton Fleming, Hunmanby and into Filey to the Cobbled landing and Lifeboat station and the solo motorcycle parking area ( only to find that Audi's are classed as solo motorcycles too!).

Here we managed to find young lady to help take the usual T5 picture, with Mark adding a few extra forgood measure, ( especially the Filey Cobb Xmas tree made with Lobster pots), and catching John Coe before he left us due to family commitments. 

The route to Scarborough was the usual coast road and parking next to the harbour we   ventured into the Harbour Bar for more Tea/Coffee/Chocolate Horlics ( I've not been in there for over 40 years).

After more talk it was decided we head back toward the York area, with Chris Otter leading the way via the Buttercrambe TT and riders peeling off homewards as needed.
