With the weekend approaching and no half day ride posted I figured it would be a good idea to see if anyone wanted to join me on a short jaunt south to a cafe I found some time ago with the cheapest menu I've seen for many years So I posted my last minute plan.
It must have struck a chord with some (no pun GW) as Graham West & Steve Eeles signed up to tag along.
After a very brief, brief we set off and made our way generally south and reached the planned T&P stop, Tank hill cafe at Great Houghton. It was at this point I worked out why I couldn’t contact the cafe on the phone, it had recently ceased trading. “Not to worry” said both my companions and after a short rest & a chat we continued our ride. Now we were heading north and east, in a round about fashion, towards our lunch stop.
This section of the ride had more drama, as we approached Barnsdale bar planning to head north up the A539 we passed one accident and then came up on a tail back which, according to a helpful van driver, was caused by yet another crash which had closed the road on our planned route. So, after a quick almost mobile conference, we crossed over the A1 and I plotted a modified route to our lunch stop at ‘Dainty Doris’ 'The coffee shop' between Norton and Askern. Where we all enjoyed lunch and another T5 chin wag. Thanks to both Steve and Graham for your company and understanding re the T&P being shut, and to Graham for technically filling the back marker role.
