The mystery ride - 2/7/22 - by?

Posted on 10/07/22 |
Well the mystery was that.....Pete didn't lead a ride at all!
Chris & John C both had offerings for this week and after a civil discussion it was decided that Monsieur Coe would lead.
Before we move onto the details it is noted with much pleasure that Meg Davies a long serving member of T5 had ridden down to Squires after having a knee replaced only a coupla months ago!  Well done Meg a man dedicated to his passion :-)
And no less a display of passion, Jez came along after completing his bum busting ride from Lands end to John a Groats and back in 24 hours for charity to which he is very pleased and thankful for the money who supported this endeavour by singing on to
this site: and still available I'd say.
So come the briefing we were already full of human kindness when JC told us we were going by circuitous route to Fewston Farm shop for the 1st T&P and to Hawes creamery for lunch and almost compulsorily to Brymoors for pud.
John’s briefing was text book as ever and we took off a bit late, guess who, by turning right towards Sherburn and left across to Wetherby, Bramham Collingham and then due West on that excellent wiggly road(s) via Sicklinghall, Kirkby Overblow, (how did that name evolve?), North Rigton, Leathley, Farnley, and across to Fewston Farm Shop near the reservoir of that name.
As we know it's a cheerful place, well seated in and out and the grub, although not the cheapest is good, for those of us who are not Vegan etc. there is an excellent butchers selling the produce of the Farm, brill!
Onwards and upwards, literally, after satiating our appetites and in one case having gained a couple of proper pork chops for the BBQ that evening, we made a quick left/right on the A59 and surged up to Thruscross, another lovely reservoir but as with Fewston, woefully shallow, and joined Greenhow Hill on the B6265 following it through Hebden and to Grassington, loverly village full of walkers and other tourists.
Now one of the more traditional routes up to Aysgarth via Buckden, Kilnsey to West Burton was eschewed by our leader and instead we rode up a lesser known road paralleling it to some extent through Braidley, Gamersgill and up to West Witton, a bit more challenging route and very enjoyable. Hawes250622 Joining the good ol A684 into Hawes and left at the top of the town to Hawes Creamery, place of birth of Wensleydale, Kit Calvert, Fountains Gold, Yorkshire Cheddar (?) etc.,etc., cheeses and very good quality scranner for lunch overlooking wonderful views of the heart of the NY National Park, sheep an' all.
Retracing our steps somewhat we branched of and skirting round Redmire and Wensley we joined the A6108 just South of Leyburn through Middleham, East Witton and Jervaulx to the final hang right into the emporium of Brymoors Ice Cream, yay ;-)
After moderate gorgeing Chris lead those remaining back to, well Helperby in the end where the final split occurred.....I think!
