And yet another ride out, that had to be tweaked, but only due to the rather breezy conditions.
Six brave T5-ers attended Squires, which was a bonus for the ride, as it was forecasted to be most of the elements that normally dictate as to the tough decision, as to whether to stay in bed, or bite the bullet and turn up.
The brief on our destination and T&P was straight forward, scratch the Gliding Club and Bagby saved the day, again, and depending on what we came across on the way, would dictate our final destination, but as luck would have it, it all went fairly well and Whitby could be boxed off.
Today’s top tip, was the marking of junctions, and obviously, Pete’s top tip paid off, as you all did it rather well, apparently :-)
A minor hiccup before we set off, I’d been removed from the ride, but luckily reinstated shortly afterwards. Down to a T5-er removing themselves from the ride, and being associated with the ride, taking myself off as well,… so, I could have stayed in bed :-)
Firstly, thank you for all those T5-ers that joined me, and to Mike for doing a grand job of keeping it all ship shape by volunteering for doing the honours of sweeper.
It was great to see the training team at Squires, and between them and us the bikes in the car park would have been few and far between.
We headed off, right out of the car park, taking some of those well worn routes, Tadcaster, Boston Spa, we ducked around the closed level crossing at Cattal, Thorpe Underwood, Alfwark Btidge,Alne, Easingwold, Husthwaite, Kilburn and to our T&P at the Old Barn Coffee Shop, all appeared to have gone fairly well, and no fallen trees this time.
Two of the group departed homeward, whilst the balance of the group set off for the coast.
Out onto the A170, turning off at the National Park Centre at Sutton Bank, in the direction of that excellent B1257 that takes you to Stokesley.
At Clay Bank we turned off towards, Ingleby Greenhow, Battersby, Castletown, Lealholm, and onto the A171 to Whitby, ….. apologies for the lack of a map/ routing.
The ride to our destination had been breezy to say the least, but wet stuff had held off.
Pete was good enough to lead the way to Seaways, and what a great routing it was, shame that the wet stuff had decided to try and spoil the ride, only a man in a van coming the opposite direction did that hitting a rather puddle at speed at Fimber, … I can only say that it was like being at sea on rather a rough day, and being hit by a large wave,…. it did save me the job of cleaning the bike.
Pete treated us to tea and bakewell at Squires, thank you for that Pete, and being the last to leave, the clue being the shutters were coming down, we headed off homeward.
A great day for myself, as it’s very satisfying to lead, and for all of us to go homeward with the next adventure sometime soon.
So, please consider doing a lead, as we’ll rally round and give you heaps of advice, if it’s needed of course.
Stay Safe guy’s and girl’s.
