The weather on this August bank holiday was cool but dry, and sure enough as per the directions seven Team 5'ers, two with pillions and my guest Gareth joined my pillion Sarah and myself at Wetherby services at the allotted time to start the ride. The Roll call was as follows - Sarah and I, leading, followed by Ian Mason & his passenger, Symor, Graham, James ( YAM member new to team 5), Steve Eeles, Tim & Delia and last but not least our back marker Luke.
The route took us on some familiar roads via Bickerton, Cattal, a quick left then right got us across the A59. heading generally north east to include Aldwalk bridge. On to the A19, bypassed Easingwold then into the hills and through Coxwold, Wass and Ampleforth until we reached out T & P stop at Beadlam Grange Bang on time. After some refreshments we embarked on the second leg. After retracing the last couple of miles of the first leg our route was now almost due south, sounds boring but the road past Castle Howard is always good. we did join the A64 where it changes from single to dual but only for 1/2 a mile before turning towards Kirkham past the priory, the down to Stamford bridge across the river then onwards generally south to Bubwith and onto the back road that leads to Brieghton Airfield where we were invited to their 'Flying in day'. After having to convince the man on the gate that we were Guests of the Chairman we got in and parked up. It was nice to see Anne & Steve, who arrived by car on medical grounds. There was quite a bit of activity to keep us entertained including Running static mounted Merlin & a Leonides rotary aircraft engine. The only let down was the catering people had seriously under estimated their quantities and ran out of food before we had all been fed so Symor had to leave to find sustenance elsewhere. All in all every one seemed to have good day.
Thank you to all for your company and to Luke for performing back marker duties.
