TD ride 15/6/19 - Sutton Bank Visitor Centre - Pete Tidball
A very comforting briefing by Pete today assuring no main roads, grass or gravel!
After a week of ‘grotbag’ weather it was a pleasantly warm dry start for the six TD riders including...at the front Pete and at the back...Mac.
From the Cafe passing through Sherburn* we headed eastwards on a super meandering route and the old familiar fav’ roads via Escrick*, Wheldrake* and Elvington*. At Kexby* a left turn took us onto a long, narrow, grass and gravel ‘spotted’ lane (Pete you scamp!) providing an interesting and spirited ride north east to High Catton, Skirpenbeck*, Buttercrambe*, Scrayingham and new to me the village of Bossall* where apparently in 1348 the population of 76 was devastated by the Black Death.
We joined the A64 after Claxton* and with perfect timing arrived at Thomson’s chippy where the tea drinkers enjoyed their brews gratis of John the owner!
Only half way for me today however as always a really great ride and brill’ company thanks loads to all.

The next tranche of the ride was a combination of a few old favourites, turning left back onto the A64 and left again into Flaxton there was the Sheriff Hutton TT through Farlington to Stillington (always worth riding), then onto Brandsby with a right left to head on up and down to Ampleforth.
After entering Wass, we went straight on through the single file arch and via a bit more challenging path to Oldstead, curving back down to Kilburn of Mousey Thompson fame and finally the romp towards the Old Barn @ Balk but turning right and right again onto the Sutton Bank road, up the Bank itself, can be fun on a bike, but not when following a long queue of slow moving traffic, finally entering the car/bike park @ the Sutton Bank Visitor Centre the wrong way!
Pretty well timed and a splendid ride, although I say it myself, thanks to Mac for back marker duties.
