How to qualify as an Advanced Motorist

Go to https://www.iamroadsmart.com/courses.

Click on ‘All Courses’ and select ‘Advanced Driver'.  This will provide you with an overview of what to expect.

If you wish to proceed click on “Buy Course” and enter the relevant information.

You will be contacted by your local group’s Chief Observer, who will allocate a qualified Observer to mentor you through a series of observed runs in your vehicle – at your pace. 

Once you have acquired the relevant skills, your Observer will arrange for you to take the advanced driving test.  You will be required to demonstrate your newly acquired skills to an IAMRS examiner, and the test will last approximately one and a half hours.  Once you have passed the test you will receive a certificate endorsed by the IMI, and become a member of IAM RoadSmart, as well as your local group. 

And it doesn’t stop there, with further opportunities to develop your skills as a Local Observer, National Observer, Local Observer Assessor, or even a Fellow of the IAMRS. 

Of course the ultimate goal is to have the opportunity to train for the highest standard of civilian driving – the IAM RoadSmart Masters qualification. Yes that could be YOU!
