The 2017 AGM was held on Tuesday 16th May, followed by the May Members’ Meeting. As we were welcoming a very special guest speaker for the Members’ Meeting, we moved from our normal meeting venue to the Greswolde Arms Hotel in Knowle.
The AGM commenced at 7:30pm, attended by a total of 38 Members and guests. Sarah Sillars, CEO of IAM RoadSmart, who was our guest speaker for the meeting, also attended.
The AGM began with the apologies from those unable to attend, followed by agreement of the Minutes of the 2016 AGM, with no matters arising from those Minutes.
The Accounts had been circulated to all Members prior to the AGM, and these were unanimously approved.
The Treasurer’s Report for 2016 was presented by the outgoing Group Treasurer, Peter Skinner, which indicated that the Group was in a healthy financial position with good cash reserves.
The Annual Report for 2016 was presented by the Group Chair, Steve Price. The report highlighted the continued success with Associate training, including several F1RSTs among the passes. However, Steve mentioned some of the difficulties the Group was having in recruiting new Associates, pointing out there was still a vacancy for a Recruitment Coordinator. He went on to describe the increased frequency, and success, of meetings and events during the previous year, and looked forward to these continuing during 2017.
The election of the Group Office Bearers followed, with the Chair, Steve Price, and Secretary, Bernadette Fraley, standing for reselection, both of whom were successfully re-elected. However, the Treasurer, Peter Skinner, stood down, leaving a vacancy for that position. There was one Committee Member, Glen Bell, due to stand for reselection. However, Glen has decided to leave the Committee so did not stand for reselection. During the course of the year three Committee Members resigned: David Langan, Lynne Read-Langan, and Jonathan Wood.
An addition to the Group Constitution was then put to the Members for approval: “Committee Members absent from three consecutive Committee Meetings will be deemed to have resigned”. This addition was duly approved.
There was nothing put forward under Any Other Business, and the AGM concluded at 8:10pm.
At this point Sarah Sillars was invited to present Certificates to a number of Members who had recently passed their Advanced Driving Test, and a group photo of the recipients is shown above.
Members were then invited to tuck into the buffet provided, before settling back in their seats to listen to our guest speaker, Sarah Sillars, give a very interesting and informative talk on the future of IAM RoadSmart, following which she answered questions from a number of the Members.
The Group Chair, Steve Price, then wound up the meeting by thanking Sarah for taking time out of her busy schedule to come along and talk to us.
