Tuesday 6th September witnessed another first for us, with the Members' Meeting being held at Lloyds Indian Restaurant in Knowle, with Bryan Davis (IAM RoadSmart Examiner) as the guest after-dinner speaker.
Over 40 members and guests gathered on a warm late summer evening to enjoy socialising and excellent Indian cuisine, before being both educated and entertained by Bryan with a talk entitled ‘Driver Fatigue and Stress Related Issues – Chill !’. The members and guests were treated to a thought provoking talk punctuated with the occasional sound of exploding balloons! I think we all learnt a lot about how much our state of mind can affect our reaction times when driving, and why it is important to chill and get rid of the ‘monkey’ before getting behind the wheel. Distractions come in many forms, and recognising these can be an enormous benefit to any driver. For those who were at the event – start thinking about the wearing of seat belts in the rear of the car and the elephant in the rear seat about to crush you, but then visualise the ‘woolly mammoth’ sitting in the back seat waiting to distract your driving!
Given the positive comments at the end of the evening, it seems certain that this type of event will be repeated before too long. Thanks to all who supported the event, and Glen Bell who helped organise it.
See you again soon!
