It works like this:
At a deviation or junction, the ride leader points at a safe stopping place for the second man, this is a safe spot to stop and mark the way for other riders coming up behind. The 'stopped' second man then acts to 'mark the way' which may be just be an indicator flashing right or left, or an arm signal to riders behind which way to turn.
After all riders have correctly made the turn, but before the tail rider passes the stopped rider rejoins the ride just ahead of the tail, and the ride progresses. At roundabouts the 'marker, second man' should position by the exit required, if safe to do.
If a rider wishes to depart the group, they should drop back through to the tail rider, and indicate to him their departure.
Riders must not overtake the leader, they will probably be deemed to now be the leader!
Any Full Member can offer to lead a ride. Please speak to the Rides Co-Ordinator or one of the Chief Observers who will be pleased to offer help and guidance as to how to properly organise and run a group ride.
