Road to my Masters test.
I passed my test back in 97, using my bike for mainly work. I only had a bike for a couple of years as the bike I had, Suzuki GSX750F, was rubbish in the rain, would only fire on 2 cylinders, so never knew whether I would get to and from work if it was wet. The bike went with the intention of getting another one, but it just didn't happen, kids and stuff!
In 2014 I got ZZR600 and decided to go on a bike safe day where I met a couple of representatives from IAM and decided it would be a good thing to do before I got into bad habits, passing my advanced test later on with Malcolm Farra as my observer.
Last year my partner Sue commented that if she got a bike again she would do the Advanced course. So before she could change her mind there was a V Strom 650 outside the house for her. She started her course this year, I also booked her on the IAM Ladies Skills Day at Thruxton. Freaking out she said "I'm not doing a track day!!!" After explaining what it was she said "ok, but you've made me do the advanced, now your making me go on a track, what are you going to do? Maybe you should do the Masters?"
Seeing as I hadn't taken any more training since passing my test I thought it would be a good thing to do. So I started my masters with Mark Tucker as my mentor, taking and passing my Masters test recently. My examiner was Robbie Downing who afterwards gave me some very helpful advice to keep working at and improving my riding. What I have taken from all of this is that we can all keep learning and improving our riding.
