“I first learnt to ride a motorbike in 1992 whilst stationed at RAF Kinloss as a Nimrod MR2 pilot and captain. After 18 years of doing various flying jobs including flying for the US Navy, I retired from the RAF and became an airline pilot for a small cargo company called Channel Express. That company quickly grew into the holiday company now known as
Jet2.com and I now spend most of my time training and checking pilots in the
Jet2.com simulator centre in Bradford. I decided to change to a part-time contract in 2019 in order to spend more time at home in Ponsanooth with my wife and pursue my other interests of sailing and riding motorbikes. I joined CAM back in April 2019 after buying a BMW R1250GS and took my advanced test in November of that year. I also undertook RoSPA training in 2020, gaining a Gold pass just before the lockdowns curtailed most leisure motorcycling. I joined Cornwall Blood Bikes as a West Area Rider in December 2020 and have had the honour of volunteering for them during my week off from work each month. In April/ May 2021, I began Local Observer training with Terry Tomlin and I am now pleased to be observing my first associate. I hope to meet a lot more members in CAM over the next 6 months as restrictions ease and we return to normality and hopefully I will be able to fly people on their holidays from Bristol Airport sometime soon as well.”
