NECAM volunteers offer training for IAM recognised courses - Advanced Driver and the IAM Masters. Several monthly social events are also held for members, associates and friends - coffee mornings, evening meals and monthly meetings. See our 'Events' page. NECAM covers the County Durham, Sunderland and Hartlepool areas.
In common with all other groups and with the central IAM philosophy, our aim is to reduce the number of accidents, deaths and serious injuries on our roads. We promote higher standards of driving through the Advanced Driving Test (ADT) and through a wide variety of educational channels. For well over 50 years, the IAM has been a leading UK road safety charity, promoting better driving and road safety research.
At NECAM, we come from all walks of life and from many different backgrounds. We pride ourselves on our friendly, approachable atmosphere. Our group has a thriving events calendar which includes talks, lectures, coffee mornings, social meals and even weekend breaks. The aim is to offer a central point for members to join together for ADT preparation, but also enjoy the friendship and support of like-minded drivers. All ages are welcome and virtually everyone can benefit from our skilled, independent observation and coaching.
On joining the Advanced Driver course, you will be allocated an Observer for one-to-one tuition to prepare you for the ADT. All of our Observers are volunteers, but are fully trained and qualified. The ADT examiner will hold a Police Advanced Driving Certificate and will have been trained formally to ensure that the IAM standard is maintained throughout the country.
Whatever your background or level of driving experience, we are here to help you achieve a very worthy qualification that will improve your skills and safety, whilst increasing your driving enjoyment and we hope you’ll give the experience a try. For more information, please visit our contact page.
